Erica Begelhole

Psychologist

Erica works with clients aged 12 till late adulthood, within a cognitive therapy framework which helps them recognise how their thoughts and beliefs regarding their life issues are what leads to emotional pain and suffering. She utilises many other treatment modalities to compliment her practice including mindfulness, schema therapy, motivational interviewing and psychodynamic therapy. She is also trained in administering intelligence testing e.g. Wechsler Intelligence Scale for children and Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale.

She started following her career in the social work/welfare field after developing a passion to help people following her own early life struggles. She began working with young males in juvenile detention on a pilot project to help them develop the skills to reintegrate into the community with less likelihood of reoffending. She went to the Gold Coast Youth Service to work with young people (aged 12-25) who were homeless or at risk of homelessness. Whilst at the Youth Service she completed her studies in psychology majoring in both forensic and clinical psychology. Erica then went on to work with Queensland Health in the initial stages of developing the Access Team to provide better access to Child and Youth Mental Health services. Whilst at CYMHS she refined her skills t working with adults as well as young people (aged 5-18). It was then onto Headspace doing initial assessments and Private Practice.

Alongside these organisations she also commenced private practice in 2005 at a local GP surgery where her main clientele was adults presenting predominantly wioth anxiety and depression.

From 2012-2017, Erica worked full time at Olsen Avenue Specialist Clinic/Helix Health Specialist Clinic with a group of amazing psychiatrists which helped to further develop her skill base.

Life throws many curve balls and sometimes we need help navigating through the tough times. Erica is very easy going and nothing phases her. She has a great ability to sit with people through all walks of life and help them feel safe and comfortable as they engage in the therapeutic process.
